AgMIP Establishes A New Executive Committee

The American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America, and Soil Science Society of America will host more than 4,000 scientists, professionals, educators, and students at the 2017 International Annual Meeting, “Managing Global Resources for a Secure Future,” on Oct. 22-25, 2017, in Tampa, Florida; and AgMIP research is being featured in several sessions.
On Sunday, October 22 at 2:30-3:30 pm, AgMIP will hold an Open Session on U.S. Activities. This Open Session will be an opportunity to learn about recent and future activities of the AgMIP community with a particular focus on AgMIP U.S. initiatives, including Crop Water Evapotranspiration, CO2-Temperature-Water Sensitivity, Potato Model Intercomparison and Improvement, Data Interoperability, and Bioenergy.
This will be immediately followed by a session of the AgMIP Evapotranspiration Model Intercomparison. The Leaders of this activity will share progress to date
and plans for the future. Members of the A-C-S Community interested in participating in this initiative are encouraged to join this session.
On Monday, October 23 at 2:00-3:25 pm the session Recent Findingsof the AgMIP Projects will be held. The session presentations include “Modeling Canopy Temperature as a Driver of Heat Stress in Wheat,” “Prediction of Evapotranspiration and Yields of Maize: An Inter-Comparison Among 31 Maize Models,” “Interpreting APSIM and DSSAT Maize Model Responses to Carbon Dioxide, Temperature, Water, and Nitrogen under Degraded Soil Conditions,” and “Understanding the Impact of Sustainable Water Use on U.S. Irrigated Agriculture.”
A poster session on Global Climate Change and AgMIP: More Recent Observations and Adaptations will be held on Tuesday, October 24 at 4:00-6:00 pm. This session aims to describe climate change and associated extremes on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and to present adaptive solutions or tools for implementing long-term adaptation and mitigation strategies.
Additional sessions with participation from members of the AgMIP community include Advances in Crop Modeling Applications to Secure Food and Environmental Sustainability, Understanding the Yield Gap in World-Wide Wheat Production and the Opportunities for International Collaboration, Importance of Soil Health to Food Security: National and Global Security Concerns, Climatology and Modeling Oral General II, DSSAT Foundation Open Forum, and Examples of Model Applications in Field Research.
